AUSTRALIA'S BEST GRASS ROOTS HISTORIC EVENT

We are heading over to Tassie once again for this special retro event, we think this is the best event we have attended in Australia and by far the closest to the fabled Goodwood on our shores, well worth the trip to Tassie for.

We ran the Moffat Mustang last year and eagerly look forward to returning again this year with some more Aussie Muscle, as you can see by the video below we were a little bit stoked to be a part of this fantastic event.

TWO AUSSIE ICONS HEAD TO TASSIE....

BROCK/ RICHARDS 1978 BATHURST WINNING A9X

First time back since 1979, the HDT A9X will wow the fans.

In 1978 the Holden Dealer Team (HDT) underwent a transformation after having been swept aside by the Moffat and Bond Falcons the previous year. Long time team manager Harry Firth retired and was replaced by the meticulous John Shepard. Also returning was Holdens favourite son. Peter Brock. In this A9X Brock won both the 1978 Australian Touring Car Championship and Bathurst 1000 Titles. The team were winners from the start, with their beautifully prepared cars winning the first two rounds of the championship. A bingle with Moffat cost Brock the third round at Amaroo Park and he was excluded from Sandown for an incorrect sway bar.

In Western Australia’s Wanaroo round the HDT put on a crushing display of superiority taking first, second and third places. Brock clinched the championship at Adelaide where a third place sealed an overall victory.

Brock also dominated the ’78 Australian Manufacturers series for Holden by winning 3 of the four races.

Bathurst was another win for the Holden steamroller, with Jim Richards and Brock winning in a record time, some 13minutes quicker than Moffat set the previous year.

We have owned the A9X for close to 11 years now and look forward to returning with her to Tassie for the first time since 1979, where John Harvey piloted her to win the ATCC round. Brocks Bathurst co-driver Jim Richards will be running at the event and we hope to have him in the car for a run or two..

And we have not forgotten the Ford fans....

JOHNSON TRU BLU XD FORD FALCON

Fresh from a recent overhaul, Tru Blu is ready to run in Tassie once again.

Tru Blu is one of the most well remembered cars driven by Ford racing legend Dick Johnson.

In 1980 Johnson was a relatively unknown Queensland battler who fronted for the Bathurst race in his new XD falcon. While comfortably leading the race, a spectator dislodged a large rock onto the track, Johnson was unable to avoid it, crashed and was taken out of the race. Dick’s emotional interview on Channel 7 struck a chord with a huge amount of the viewers, who began ringing up and pledging money to help him continue. Edsel Ford matched it dollar for dollar and $74 000 was amassed on top of another $50 000 from long time sponsor Ross Palmer to build a new and better Tru Blu. With this new car Johnson became the new and much needed hero of Ford fans everywhere.

Dick promised to race at every track that year as a thank you for all his new supporters. They were not to be disappointed, the New XD came back in one the most fairytale ways in 1981, winning both the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) series and as he promised, the Bathurst 1000 enduro with long time friend, John French.

In 1982 Johnson followed up with another big win in the ATCC series, before swapping to his new XE Falcon at the end of the year. He sold Tru Blu to Brisbane privateer Alf Grant, who raced it for a few more years to come. Dick finally bought Tru Blu back where it became a focal point in his DJR showroom at Staplyton, Qld.

In 2007 Johnson’s race team again had financial drama and a deal was done with passionate collector David Bowden to purchase Tru Blu and the other cars from the collection. We have now given Tru Blu a total overhaul with the help of Dick Johnson Racing. So that after 20 years in hibernation, she is now fresh and ready for the run down the flying mile.

BIG NEWS!

Best news of all of this is that Dick Johnson will be on hand to drive her each day down the flying mile, the first time since she has all been refreshed and returned to it's famous Bathurst winning 1981 race livery. Last time Dick drove her at speed was in 1982, so it should be very special for all those coming along to see.

THE EVENT

First held in 2011, the Longford Revival Festival is an international event that takes place on 30 acres of farm land on Pateena Road (The Flying Mile) in Longford, Tasmania.

The Festival celebrates an important chapter in Tasmania’s history and a vital part of the history of Longford and its surrounding regions. It is a celebration of the car races that took place from 1953 to 1968 in the town, but it is most importantly a celebration of the people that made it happen.

I have some videos taken from my phone so be kind and yes there are a couple of issues that should be edited but I don't have the software. It's hard to focus and move with the required speed but these should give you a bit of an idea

There was an accident where the brakes on a Nissan failed and it went right through the hay barrier and into traffic colliding with a car leaving the venue.
